Good Samaritan Fatally Struck By Car In Pennsylvania

DUNMORE, Pa. (AP) -- A coroner says a good Samaritan who had stopped to help another motorist change a tire died of trauma injuries caused when he was hit by another vehicle along a Pennsylvania highway.

Troopers from the Dunmore barracks say the dead man is 30-year-old Richard Cummings, of Scranton.

Police say Cummings stopped to help a 20-year-old man change a flat near Exit 5 of the Casey Highway in Mayfield just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday. A 17-year-old boy had also stopped to help out.

That's when police say a sport-utility vehicle driven by a Simpson woman crashed into the disabled car, also hitting Cummings and injuring the car's owner and the 17-year-old teen.

Police say the crash remains under investigation and have not charged the driver.

The Lackawanna County coroner confirmed Cummings' cause of death on Monday.
