MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) — Detectives are continuing to look for the parents of a newborn whose body washed up on a New Jersey beach nearly a decade ago.

The girl became known as “Baby Blue” after a charity by that name to give her a proper burial was created by the wife of the man who discovered her body.

The man was walking on a Ventnor beach in January 2004 when he found a laundry bag and opened it. Inside was another bag which contained the newborn’s body with the placenta and umbilical cord attached.

An autopsy determined the cause of death to be asphyxia due to strangulation.

Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain says anyone with information should contact the cold case unit at 609-909-7800.
