Inaugural Maguire Foundation Scholarships Help 125 Students Attend Catholic School

By Kim Glovas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - One hundred twenty five Catholic high school students were honored this evening, thanks to the first inaugural Maguire Foundation scholarships.

Each student must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average and be involved in activities in school and the community. Jack Bridges found out about his $2,000 scholarship to go to Bishop McDevitt High School on the last day of his middle school years.

"I actually found out when she called us up and was announcing what we got, I didn't know until then, so I was excited and surprised at the same time."

The scholarships are a gift from the Maguire Foundation. Founder James Maguire says he was trained by Jesuits.

"What they taught me is that we are men and women for others, and I thought, here's an opportunity for me to prove that I can be a man for others, and that's what drove me to do this."
