'DesignPhiladelphia' Kicks Off This Week

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The 9th annual DesignPhiladelphia festival kicks off this week.

DesignPhiladelphia takes place October 10th through the 18th, with a kickoff benefit party on the 9th.

"DesignPhiladelphia is made up of 115 different events that take place all across the city."

That's Hilary Jay, co-founder of DesignPhiladelphia. She says the events throughout the city focus broadly on design from architecture to fashion to food to graphic design and everything in between.

"There are 50,000 creative workers in the design sector in Philadelphia and the region and they bring in -- I don't have the number off the top of my head -- but it's in the billions of dollars of revenues every year."

Why is design so important?

"Everything is a design experience and I just don't think enough people recognize that!"
