Garces Foundation Gala Brings Food, Good Cause To Kimmel Center

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Kimmel Center last night played host to dozens of local chefs, musicians and vendors who showcased their talents all for a good cause.

Hundreds packed into the Kimmel Center for the 2nd annual Garces Foundation culinary event.

The fundraiser gave participants a chance to try an array of foods from top chefs and restaurants from all over the city, with the proceeds all going to help the less fortunate.

"It has been a really exciting year for the foundation as we have developed and implemented several programs that are all geared toward improving the health, nutrition and education of the local underserved immigrant community here in Philadelphia," says Dr. Beatriz Garces, the co-chair of the Garces Foundation.

She says those new programs include a community health day, diagnostic care and physicals.

"We also have a wonderful ESL program that is geared towards restaurant workers, so that they can learn English in their work environment. So they can move up the ladder."
