PHILADELPHIA (CBS)—The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office has charged 50-year-old Douglas Diemidio with Theft of Services for tampering with the electric meter inside of his home on S. 12th Street to avoid full payment on his utility bills to PECO.

PECO estimates that Diemidio’s theft of service reaches almost $10,000 over the course of four years.

Diemidio, a former Philadelphia Police Officer, has been charged after an investigation by PECO, Police Internal Affairs and the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Special Investigations Unit.

Diemidio turned himself into police this afternoon and is currently being processed.
