Police Officer Struck By Car In Hunting Park

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  A Philadelphia police officer was hit by a stolen vehicle in Hunting Park Friday night.

Police say just before 8 p.m. in the 3800 block of Marshall Street, 25th District bicycle patrol officers witnessed a vehicle hit two parked cars and take off.  The officers pursued the driver on their bikes to the 3800 block of Franklin Street, attempting to pull him over again.

"When the officers attempted to pull the Chevy Malibu over, the driver intentionally struck with the vehicle one of the officers. Struck a 25th District bike officer in his right elbow," Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The Malibu, which police say was stolen, took off at a high rate of speed crashing into a dry cleaning business, ending a pursuit that began blocks away.

The officer is listed in stable condition.

The 20-year-old driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Temple University Hospital.  Police say he is now facing several charges, including assaulting a police officer.
