Eisgruber Installed As Princeton's 20th President

PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) — Christopher Eisgruber has formally taken the reins at Princeton University.

Eisgruber was installed Sunday as the Ivy League school's 20th president during an outdoor ceremony attended by hundreds of people at the school's campus.

Eisgruber was serving as the university's provost when school trustees appointed him in April as the successor to Shirley Tilghman, who stepped down after 12 years. He took over as president in July.

Eisgruber received a degree in physics from Princeton in 1983 and then earned his law degree from the University of Chicago. He worked as a clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens and taught at New York University's School of Law before returning to Princeton in 2001.
