PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Opera Philadelphia presents, ‘Nabucco.’
Listen to the podcast below…
Company President David Devan says it’s an old, well-known story. The composer is Giuseppe Verdi.
“It’s based on a biblical story about Hebrews being enslaved and needing to find their own home, and what it really is is a metaphor for what’s going on in Verdi’s Italy at the time,” Devan explains.
The performance will be a visual spectacle, including artwork and talent reminiscent of Verdi’s time and homeland. Devan says the chorus will be one-of-a-kind, filling the stage with many fabulous voices.
“You need 72…in fact, we’re using a large chorus than our partners in Washington and Minneapolis did, because we’ve got them,” he adds.
Performances run from Sept. 27 though Oct. 6. For more info, visit: www.operaphila.org
