What’s Cooking On 1060: Roaming Drinks, A Street Fair, And A World of Food

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Mt. Airy is hosting its very first independent street fair on Thursday, September 19th. Fair director Elizabeth Moselle says it’s called “Sip, Savor, Stroll.” She says Germantown Avenue will be shut down for the evening.
“For two years previous to this we’ve partnered with the Food Trust, and we’ve put on a fabulous event with Night Market. We’re huge supporters of Night Market, we love them, but it was time to do our own, new brand and put a Mt. Airy spin on it,” Moselle tells What’s Cooking.

Meanwhile, all over Philadelphia, businesses are getting ready to participate in the inaugural Global Philly 2013 exposition.
It takes place September 15th through November 1st, and includes a food component. Peter Woolsey, owner of Bistrot La Minette, is one of the culinary participants.
“Global Philly is basically a bunch of events essentially to promote Philadelphia as a global city, as a city with international ties, and really to show the world how fabulous of a city we really are,” Woolsey explains. And he says this event showcases Philadelphia’s broad array of cuisines:
“You can taste the world right here in Philly! You don’t ever have to leave the city.”

And the Rittenhouse Row Fall Fashion Crawl and Cocktail Competition takes place on Thursday, September 19th.
Joe Baker is the Beam “brand ambassador” for Southern Wine and Spirits, the liquor distributor for this unique event, in eastern Pennsylvania. He says Rittenouse Row restaurants will be paired with Rittenhouse businesses:
“You’re going to start off at Sephora, you’re going to check in, get your wristband. It’s going to give you the ticket to roam around the district and visit all the great cocktail competitions going on throughout the venues.”
