Event Marks 75th Anniversary Of Kristallnacht

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - In November, Har Zion Temple in Penn Valley will commemorate the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht.

Har zion cantor Elliot Vogel says the Temple is setting up a museum in its synagogue leading up to the November 10th presentation.

"The focal point of the evening," Vogel said. "We'll be presenting this 45 minute cantata entitled "Stars in the Dust'. It's written for chorus, a soloist, chamber orchestra and narrator."

He says while Kristallnacht, or "the night of the broken glass" was nothing compared to what happened during the Holocaust, it was the passive attitude of the German civilians that gave officials an indication that they could go ahead and commit further atrocities.

"And we will have as part of this museum actually some video testimony from the Shoa Foundation so people can hear first hand what it was like to have their businesses smashed," Vogel said there is a 60 person capacity to the event. Tickets cost $10.
