Small Delco Group Protests Proposed US Military Action Against Syria

By David Madden

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. (CBS) -- As Congress prepares to debate a resolution approving the use of military force against the Syrian government for gassing its own people, some in the Delaware Valley are suggesting that's not such a good idea.

A few members of the Brandywine Peace Community picketed today outside the Delaware County office of Rep. Pat Meehan (R-Pa.).   They want him to vote no.

"More bombs, more Cruise missiles are not going to lead to justice nor to peace in Syria," says Brandywine spokesman Bob Smith (second from right, in red hat).

The group met today with a Meehan staffer after the hour-long demonstration.  They are pushing for a diplomatic solution, with the UN taking the lead and for Syria's dictator to be tried on charges of committing international war crimes.

The congressman has yet to commit on the resolution but, in a statement, says the White House has not sufficiently made its case to him or the American people.
