<em> Your Fall Movie Preview </em>

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Good-bye, August.   Hello, September!

With the high-decibel summer movie season in the books and the Thanksgiving-through-New Year's movie season still a few months off, what does the quieter and more thoughtful autumn movie season have in store for viewers before the award-conscious, high-profile holiday movie lineup unveils?

Here are the main-course stars and mainstream movies coming our way between mid-September and mid-November, in essentially chronological order.

SEPTEMBER

Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer co-star as gangster and wife in the witness protection program in Normandy, France, in the action crime comedy The Family (top photo).

Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne return as husband and wife uncovering a childhood secret in the paranormal horror thriller sequel, Insidious: Chapter 2.

Ron Howard directs a biographical drama about the rivalry between race car drivers James Hunt and Nicki Lauda during the 1978 Formula One season in Rush.

Two young girls are kidnapped in a suspense thriller with an ensemble cast that includes Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Maria Bello, Terrence Howard, Viola Davis, and Melissa Leo in Prisoners.

The tragic events of November 22, 1963 –- the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated -- are chronicled through the eyes of participants at Dallas's Parkland Hospital in the biographical drama Parkland.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays a divorcée and the late James Gandolfini, in one of his final films, a friend's ex-husband with whom she becomes involved, in the romantic comedy Enough Said.

Mark Ruffalo, Tim Robbins, and Gwyneth Paltrow star in a comedy-drama about twelve-step meetings for sex addiction, set in New York City, in Thanks for Sharing.

Menacing food-animal hybrids that wreak havoc are being churned out in the animated-comedy sequel to the 2009 original in Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt writes, directs, and stars as a porn addict opposite Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore in the New Jersey-set comedy Don Jon.

Paula Patton seeks a fiancé so she won't be the only unmarried woman in her family in a comedy that also features Adam Brody, Djimon Hounsou, and Taye Diggs, in Baggage Claim.

OCTOBER

Astronauts Sandra Bullock and George Clooney are left adrift in space after their space shuttle is damaged during a spacewalk in the science fiction thriller Gravity.

Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake play mentor and protégé running a corrupt, offshore, online poker operation being investigated by the FBI in the crime thriller Runner, Runner.

Benedict Cumberpath portrays Julian Assange, the founder and editor-in-chief of the Wikileaks web site, in the news-leaking biodrama The Fifth Estate.

Douglas Booth and Hailee Steinfeld play the title characters, star-crossed lovers of enemy families, in a new adapatation of Shakespeare's romantic tragedy, Romeo & Juliet.

Tom Hanks stars as the title character taken hostage by Somali Pirates during a 2009 hijacking of an American cargo ship in the biographical thriller Captain Phillips.

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger team up as cellmates in a maximum security prison planning their escape in the action thriller Escape Plan.

Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore play daughter and mother in the second remake of the supernatural horror thriller based on the 1974 Stephen King novel of the same name, Carrie.

Chiwetel Ejiofor stars as Solomon Northup, who was kidnapped in Washington, DC in 1841 and sold into slavery, in the historical drama based on his autobiography, 12 Years a Slave.

Ridley Scott directs Michael Fassbender, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, and Brad Pitt in a drug-trafficking thriller with a screenplay by Cormac McCarthy, The Counselor.

Johnny Knoxville stars as an 86-year-old on a road trip with his grandson in the plotless succession of hidden-camera pranks and stunts in Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa.

NOVEMBER

A gifted child is sent to an advanced military school in space in preparation for a future alien invasion in the science fiction adventure with Harrison Ford, Asa Butterfield, and Abigail Breslin, Ender's Game.

Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson, and Amy Poehler provide the lead voices in the animated time-travel comedy about an attempt to prevent turkeys from becoming the traditional Thanksgiving meal in Free Birds.

Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman return as the Marvel Comics superhero embarks on a perilous journey in the adventure sequel Thor: The Lost World.

And Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Kline play aging buddies who throw a bachelor party for their last single friend, Michael Douglas, in the hangover comedy Last Vegas.
