1 Injured In Possible Road Rage Shooting In Elmwood

By Dray Clark, Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia police say a man is in custody in connection with a shooting and assault in Southwest Philadelphia just before midnight Wednesday.

Police say a 37-year-old man was shot and beaten by a 47-year-old man on the 6400 block of Grays Avenue in the Elmwood neighborhood of the city.

"It's possibly a stemming from a road rage incident that happened several blocks from this location, but we're not sure at this time," Police chief inspector Scott Small said.

Small says an argument eventually escalated into a fight and shots were fired. When officers arrived on the scene, the victim was lying on the ground with a bloody face and a gunshot wound to the wrist, the suspect was standing over him.

Police say there was so much blood, they initially thought the victim may have been shot in the head, but it was only a gash.

The victim was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in stable condition.

Investigators believe that the shooter may have fired his gun more than once.

Detectives say they will interview both the alleged shooter and the victim to get a better understanding of what exactly happened.
