Lincoln Hoping For Improvement In 2013

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Lions of Lincoln University are getting ready for the 2013 college football season, and doing so under a new head coach.
Ramon Flanigan was named the new head coach during the off-season, and he has been encouraged by what he has seen during training camp.
"Everything has been going well," Flanigan tells KYW Newsradio. "The guys are trying to get to know me and me trying to get to know them because I wasn't there for spring practice, but things are going better than I could ever imagine."

A member of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, Lincoln won just one game last season, finishing the campaign 1-9. If the Lions are going to improve here in 2013, Flanigan says it will start with the defense.
"Our defense is going to be the strength of our team," Flanigan says. "That's where we have the most returners and also the guys that are probably the most impact players on our team. I'm looking forward to seeing them actually play against somebody else because they've been doing a good job against our offense."
As far as that offense is concerned, Flanigan wants to put in positions to succeed.
"Were going to be multiple," Flanigan says. "Our biggest deal is getting guys the ball that can do things in space. We're going to do that as often as we can. And also our main objective is to take care of the ball, play very sound, fundamental offense where we're going to look to control the football and not turn the thing over."
The Lions open the 2013 season on Saturday, September 7th, as they visit rival Cheyney.
