New Retail, Housing Complex Set To Open In University City

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – University City will soon be getting more living and retail space.

Drexel University and American Campus Communities, Inc. are expanding Chestnut Square with 19-stories of residential apartments at the corner of Chestnut and 32nd Streets.

The two-story street level space will include several shops and restaurants, including frozen yogurt shop Yogorino, Joe Coffee, a new outpost of Shake Shack and Japanese restaurant coZara, from Chef Tanaka of Zama.

The project will also create a new corner entry into the Barnes and Noble.

Chestnut Square is expected to feature over 360,000 square feet of retail and housing, and several of the retailers should be up and running as early as next week.

The grand opening is set for December.
