2 Arrested After Marijuana Mailed To Bethany Beach House

BETHANY BEACH, Del., (CBS) - Delaware State Police say two men have been arrested after a package of marijuana was allegedly mailed to their house in Bethany Beach.

Police say Daniel P. Mutz, 39, of Bethany Beach, and Dennis Martinez, 29, of Lewes, were arraigned on drug and related charges.

According to police, detectives with the Sussex County Governor's Task Force and Drug Task Force were alerted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service on Tuesday about a package that was to be delivered to a house on the 29000 block of Cove Way.

Authorities say the contents of the package were examined by the Inspection Service to be a significant amount of marijuana and it was addressed to a Danny Mutz.

With the help of the USPS, detectives converged on the home with the package Tuesday afternoon.  Authorities say upon knocking on the door, they made contact with Martinez outside the home. Police say he acknowledged the delivery by signing the acceptance form before GTF members converged.

Police say upon noticing the troopers, Martinez allegedly attempted to run into the house, but was quickly taken into custody without further incident.

Mutz, who was inside the house, surrendered to the detectives without incident.

Police say a search of the house was conducted and revealed 138.1 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, drug paraphernalia, over $900 in suspected drug proceeds, and 2093.4 grams (4.61 pounds) of packaged marijuana.

Mutz and Martinez were charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Deliver Hallucinogen Mushrooms, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Hallucinogen Mushrooms, Conspiracy 2nd, and two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Martinez was also charged with Resisting Arrest.

Mutz was arraigned and released on $10,400 unsecured bond.
