Team Plans Fundraiser For Wounded Trenton Officers

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Two Trenton police detectives wounded in a shootout early this month will be the beneficiaries of a fundraiser being staged by a city-based minor league baseball team.

The Trenton Thunder say they will donate all the proceeds from certain online tickets sales for Tuesday night's home game. To ensure the money goes toward the officers, fans should enter the special code TRENTONPD when they buy their tickets at trentonthunder.com.

Detectives Edgar Rios and James Letts were shot Aug. 15 by a man facing arrest in a domestic violence case.

Authorities have said the officers were bringing a woman back to her home after she had filed a complaint against her ex-boyfriend, 23-year-old Eric McNeil, was killed during the shootout.

The Thunder are the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees.
