18-Year-Old Pedestrian In Critical Condition After Accident On Roosevelt Boulevard

By Al Novack

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Yet another pedestrian accident on Roosevelt Boulevard has a teenager fighting for his life.

The latest pedestrian accident occurred last night around 8 in the northbound lanes along the 6500-block of Roosevelt Boulevard near Mayfair.

An 18-year-old, who police say was hastily attempting to cross the boulevard, stepped into the path of an on-coming northbound car. Police say the driver couldn't react quickly enough, and struck the teen.

Police say the driver immediately stopped to render assistance and call for help. He was not charged.

The teen was rushed to Aria Torresdale Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, fighting for his life.

In just the last month, two separate accidents along the boulevard left an 11-year-old girl in critical condition and claimed the lives of a mother and her three children.

Pedestrian safety along the roadway has gained national attention and some safety experts have called the Roosevelt Boulevard one of the most dangerous highways in the nation.
