Phillies DFA Delmon Young

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Phillies have designated Delmon Young for assignment, and activated Casper Wells.

The release of Young will mean more playing time in right field for Darin Ruf, who has been hot since his call up to the major leagues, and will need all the work he can get in right field if the Phillies are considering using him there next season.

Wells will likely be used as a late-inning defensive replacement in most cases.

Young was only eight plate appearances away from a $150,000 bonus in his contract.

In 80 games with the Phillies, Young hit .261 with eight home runs and a .699 OPS. His WAR of -1.2 was the worst of any position player on the team.
