Mt. Cuba Center Open Days In August

By Phran Novelli

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - I'm not sure why they weren't open in August before but, for the first time, the Mt. Cuba Center in Hockessin, Delaware welcomes you to 'Open Days in August', Fridays and Saturdays from 10 to 4.

Pack a lunch to enjoy in their new picnic area, take in the amazing array of native wildflowers in their meadow, and take home great ideas of what you can plant at your place, like the lovely, easycare native perennials you'll see in their display gardens - like the Cardinal flower (Lobelia cardinalis) seen in the photo.

And after all our summer storms, maybe you're ready for a rain garden? They have a great one at Mt. Cuba too, and they can tell you how to start one in your yard.

Plus you'll discover prehistoric plants; wondering how they've survived three hundred million years? Just ask, docent-led tours are free with your admission which is only $6 for adults, $4 for kids and little ones under 5 are free.
