Driver Charged In Crash That Killed 3, Including Infant, In New Jersey

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) -- A driver has been charged in connection with a crash that killed three people, including an infant, in New Jersey Friday night.

The crash happened at about 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Brunswick Pike and Darrah Lane in Lawrence Township.

According to investigators, the driver of a tractor trailer -- 45-year-old Richard Williams of Brooklyn, New York -- made an illegal u-turn while traveling south on Brunswick Pike.

A Chevrolet Tahoe, with five people inside, slammed into the tractor trailer and became wedged underneath. The top half of the SUV was nearly sheared off by the force of the collision.

Jamella Tisdale, 25, was killed, along with nine-year-old Jaevon Durante and Jaden Tisdale, who was three and a half months old.

The driver of the Tahoe, Shaqwan Tisdale, 25, of Levittown, Pa., and eight-year-old Mellady Durante remain in the hospital in stable condition.

Williams is charged with three counts of death by auto. He is being held in the Mercer County Correction Center in lieu of $100,000 bail.

The investigation is ongoing.
