Strollers Needed: New Workout Encourages Moms To Bring Children

By Michelle Durham

MOORESTOWN, NJ (CBS) - There's a unique fitness class trend sprouting up for area moms. For a fee, you can join a group in your area called Stroller Strides, where strollers are not only welcome -- they are needed, because moms use the stroller bar as a workout tool. The kids enjoy it too.

The atmosphere is relaxed. Moms roll into Laurel Acres Park, toddlers in their strollers, while Bethany, a mom of two and a certified fitness instructor, takes them through their paces. The interactive workout includes the kids.

"We need to walk around to the front of the stroller and tickle those kiddos. Ready? Walking around... tickle those kiddos!"

As the moms complete their series of lunges, brisk walks and ab work, they sing the songs their children love.

"Walk around the opposite way now, tickle those kids!"

As they take their brisk laps in the park with their tikes, moms ask each other questions and share information.

Lauren, a first time mom to Quinn, says, "I love it! It's great. I work full time, so I was going to a gym where they have a daycare, but I felt like I am putting him in daycare all week long. Now, I get to work out and spend time with him."
