PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A 28-year-old man was sentenced to up to seven years in prison for despicable acts against his own 94-year-old grandmother. He set her up in a robbery and his co-conspirator pummeled the helpless woman, causing lasting physical and emotional injuries.
Family members say 94-year-old Sophie Drobish provided food, clothing and paid bills for her grandson as he fought drug addiction, but Gregory Drobish still targeted her.
Prosecutor Melissa Francis says a medic alert button alerted authorities, but also a granddaughter who became witness to this horror.
“It’s a microphone sort of speaker system in this little device, where they can hear the elderly person speaking and what is happening around them and she could hear her grandmother being beaten,” Francis explains.
And in a letter to the court, another granddaughter called Drobish and Christopher Brunkel despicable, heartless, disgusting and rotten individuals. She said any man who could tie up, rob and beat a 94-year-old woman deserves to burn in hell.
The co-defendant was sentenced to 13 to 26 years in prison.
