Thousands Flock To The Jersey Shore To Escape Heat Wave

 By Tim Jimenez

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., (CBS) - Friday may have been the hottest day of the heat wave and many from the area decided the shore was the best place to be.

It's an escape from the dog days in the Delaware Valley. Yes, a scorcher here too, but a little more manageable, says Lorraine from Winslow Township, NJ.

"It's gorgeous down here. The water and there's a fabulous breeze. So if you're walking in the water you can stay cool and it's very nice," said Lorraine.

Also on the beach after a long morning of work, John from Clayton, NJ. He's a roofer, on a project in town, 140 degrees on top of the building.

"Went in, knocked it out, got done and came out for the rest of the day to enjoy the beach," says John.

A perfect day he says because it's payday and he doesn't have to be anywhere until Monday. Then there's Joe from Franklinville.

"I'm an old man just smelling the roses," he says.

Retired, Joe spends a few days a week at the shore, and he's unfazed by this heat.

"I was in Oklahoma last Sunday. Hey, this is heaven man," he says.
