Pa. Payrolls Grew In June; Jobless Rate Steady

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Employers in Pennsylvania added an estimated 19,000 jobs to payrolls in June as the state's unemployment rate remained steady.

A Friday report by the state Department of Labor and Industry showed that June's bigger payrolls are in large part to the tourism, education and health sectors adding more than 27,000 jobs. Those additions overcame losses in manufacturing, construction and the trade, transportation and utilities sector.

The monthly addition was one of the biggest since 2010, when Pennsylvania began recovering from the effects of the recession. Pennsylvania's unemployment rate of 7.5 percent in June was the same as May's.

The national unemployment rate was 7.6 percent in June.

Payrolls hit a record above 5.8 million in 2008, but shrank to below 5.6 million in 2009. June's payrolls remain below 2006's numbers.
