Philadelphia Zoo's Young Giraffe Celebrates Third Birthday

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Despite the sweltering heat, a crowd gathered to help one of the Philadelphia Zoo's animals celebrate her birthday on Thursday.

Abigail, the zoo's young female giraffe, turned three on July 18th with a birthday party alongside her mom, Stella, and dad, Gus, inside the African Plains Exhibit.

And no good party would be complete without a "cake" – in this case, an ice cream treat made in a bundt pan – and birthday presents, or a lively rendition of "Happy Birthday" sung by the participants in the Zoo's Wildlife Warrior Summer Camp.

According to zoo officials, Abigail was the first giraffe calf born at the Philadelphia Zoo in 13 years and was delivered after a gestation period of about 15 months.
