DeSean Jackson Says The Eagles Are ‘Still A Top Five Team’
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – DeSean Jackson was out to promote his new song featuring Snoop Lion, and he wound up making a bold declaration about this year’s Eagles.
As you, me, Michael Vick and Vince Young may remember, such things haven’t worked out too well the last few years.
“The Philadelphia Eagles, [we’re] still a top 5 team in the NFL if you ask me,” Jackson said on ESPN’s First Take on Wednesday. “Regardless of what everybody else say, we gonna go out there and get it done this year.”
The top five prediction is pretty clear, if somewhat unlikely, it’s the ‘still’ part that comes across as confusing. The Eagles finished 4-12 last season, and 8-8 the season prior to that. They haven’t been a top five team in the NFL for quite a while.
When questioned on his prediction, Jackson stuck to his guns.
“Top five. I said it. I said top five. I can keep us at 28th, but I’m saying it with chest sticking out and everything. Top five in the NFL.”
As you’d figure, Jackson was asked about the never-ending discussion of who the first string quarterback should be for the Eagles. Chip Kelly has repeatedly, and understandably claimed that it’s still an open competition. Jackson’s friend Snoop predicted last month that the starter would be Vick, and it appears that Jackson is on the same page.
“I don’t want to be put on the spot, I know ya’ll gonna do me like that, but you know Michael Vick, he’s got a lot of confidence in himself. Honestly, he’s been here—going on 12 years in the NFL. I think he’ll get the job,” Jackson said.
“Nick Foles is a great, great talent coming in from Arizona, actually a Pac-12 guy. He has the height, he has the skills too. Going into the camp I think Michael Vick will probably be the starter, but we still don’t know. I think Chip Kelly is going to keep everybody honest and keep everybody open to it.”
DeSean Jackson, ladies and gentlemen.
