Police Probe Pennsylvania Teen's Death From Pickup Bed Fall

TARENTUM, Pa. (AP) -- Police were continuing to investigate the death of a popular Pennsylvania high school football player who died when he fell out of the bed of a moving pickup truck and hit his head.

Allegheny County police have yet to release the names of four other people in the cab of the truck or three others who were sitting down in the bed when 17-year-old Ryan Richards, of Tarentum, was thrown from the truck while standing in its bed about 11 p.m. Friday.

Richards played baseball and football for Highlands High School in Harrison Township, about 20 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

Police Superintendent Charles Moffatt says there's no indication drugs or alcohol were involved.

Moffatt says Richards lost his footing and was the only one standing in the bed of the truck when it turned.
