Soul Host Utah In Regular Season Home Finale

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – There are just three games left in the regular season for the Philadelphia Soul, starting with their home finale on Friday night against the Utah Blaze.

Philadelphia has already clinched the East Division title and they are tied for the best record in the American Conference at 10-5. Not bad for a team that in mid-May was sitting at 3-4. A big reason for this surge down the stretch has been defense, especially over the last month. In their last four games, Philadelphia has allowed 30 points or fewer three times, an incredible stat in the high-octane Arena Football League.

"Our defense is playing at a really high level right now," Soul head coach Clint Dolezel tells KYW Newsradio. "Our secondary, even though we've had an injury or two there, they're still playing well, they're making the quarterback hold the ball, the pass rush is getting there. They're really in sync right now and hopefully we can keep carrying that on."

Utah is just 5-10 on the season and in last place in West Division.

"We're still trying to figure out why they've only got five wins," Dolezel says. "They've got a good football team, they've got some great, skillful players, they've got a good pass rush. They're secondary's kind of crafty, they do a lot of things that a lot of teams don't do. We're definitely not taking them lightly."

Philadelphia has already clinched at least one home playoff game as a division champion.

After this game with Utah, the Soul visit San Jose and San Antonio over the regular season's final two weeks.

The Soul and the Blaze get underway at 7:35pm on Friday night.
