Gosnell Admits To Drug Sales At Clinic

By Mark Abrams

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Convicted West Philadelphia abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to running a "pill-mill" from which thousands of prescriptions for pain-killers were distributed.

The 72-year-old Gosnell is already serving three life terms for his convictions for killing three babies born alive in his abortion clinic.

After months of negotiations and rejection of two earlier plea deals offered by federal prosecutors, he finally entered a guilty plea to charges from the narcotics investigation.

That investigation and subsequent raid on his practice actually triggered the discovery of the aborted fetuses inside Gosnell's clinic.

Gosnell pleaded guilty to distributing Oxycodone and other drugs from 2008 to 2010 through his Women's Medical Society Clinic at 3801 Lancaster Avenue.

As part of the plea, Gosnell agreed to forfeit some $200,000 in income he had made from writing the prescriptions.

He faces sentencing October 4th.
