Philly Motorcycle Mechanic Waxes Philosophical With New Reality TV Show

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A new reality TV show on the Discovery Channel is set in a motorcycle shop in Fishtown, but the focus is as much on the City of Philadelphia as it is on the bikes.

"I wonder what year these bugs on the headlight are from," says Adam Cramer as he inspects a decades-old cycle.

The newly minted reality TV star of "Philly Throttle" is owner of Liberty Vintage Cycles in Fishtown, where he and his gang restore vintage motorcycles.

"I didn't really decide to become a motorcycle mechanic, that's just what I did," he explains.

But after a video of his eclectic shop appeared on the crafts web site Etsy, Cramer had several production companies try to sign him.  He kept saying no, until he got a Philly-centric pitch.

"And that's really what it's all about," he tells KYW Newsradio.  "I'm never going anywhere else in my life, and if Philadelphians don't struggle and work hard for Philadelphia, then how can we expect anyone else to?"

As for the message he hopes people take from the show, he says, "Don't live to work -- that's never going to work for you.  Follow what makes you happy.  And ultimately if you're true to it, you will become a success."
