Cherry Hill Cops Say Eyewitnesses Clammed Up After Parking Lot Shooting

By Mike DeNardo

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (CBS) -- Police investigating an overnight shootout at a Cherry Hill, NJ motel are looking at surveillance video because, they say, they got little help from the witnesses who were there.

The shooting happened just after midnight at the America's Best Value Inn on Route 70.

"It looks like somebody went to celebrate a 21st birthday party and apparently things got out of hand," says Cherry Hill detective sergeant Joseph Vitarelli, "and that led to two individuals firing shots at each other in the parking lot."

Vitarelli says at least six shots were fired.  No one was injured, but one of the rounds landed inside an occupied unit next door at the Bishop's View Apartments.

Vitarelli says the shooters either ran or drove away, and they are still at large.  He says there were about 20 people at the party but detectives got litttle cooperation in identifying the gunmen.

Police did arrest two Pennsauken men at the party on outstanding warrants unrelated to the shooting.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Cherry Hill police at 856-488-7828.
