No Summer Recess For New Jersey Legislature
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Just because it's summer doesn't mean the New Jersey Legislature won't be working.
Senate President Stephen Sweeney says senators will be at the Statehouse over the summer to tackle economic legislation, shared services and other matters.
Sweeney told radio station New Jersey 101.5 FM this week there's too much work to be done for lawmakers to idle all summer.
The Senate will be in session Monday to vote on an economic incentive bill that gives tax breaks to big developers. Another proposal yet to be voted on abolishes Rutgers University's Board of Trustees. The state university would then be governed by a single Board of Governors.
The Assembly also plans to hold summer sessions. The Legislature also worked last summer.
This summer all 120 lawmakers will be campaigning for re-election.
