Philadelphia Named a Top City For Families Visiting With Kids

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Parents magazine has put Philadelphia on its Top Ten list of best cities for families with kids to visit.

Karen Cicero, contributing editor of Parents, says the list was based on a variety of factors.

"We looked at the number of attractions that were family friendly, and the quality of those attractions, and the cost of them," she explained, along with the range of hotel and lodging options and how much they cost, how walkable the city is, whether the airport had play areas or other family friendly features, the public transportation options, the crime rate, and the weather.

From among a hundred cities evaluated, Philadelphia came in at number 10.

Families we spoke with today in Franklin Square say the magazine got it right.

"There's so much in such a close area that you can go from one thing to the next to the next and really keep the kids' interest," said one father.

And one mother noted, "There are a lot of free things to do, which is always helpful when you have a family of five, and a lot of stuff they can connect to what they learn in school.  We went to Independence Hall -- it was really interesting especially for our third grader, and it's very, very walkable."

The list appears in the August issue of Parents Magazine and is online now at parents.com.
