Soul Look To Clinch Division In Cleveland

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – These are good days for the Philadelphia Soul.

They have won three straight and five of six, and this surge has them in position to clinch the Arena Football League's East Division with a win on Saturday night in Cleveland.

The Gladiators have really struggled this season to the tune of a 2-11 ledger, but they definitely have the Soul's attention.

"One of their wins came against us, in overtime, at home, when we weren't playing really good football (64-57 back on April 20th)," Soul head coach Clint Dolezel tells KYW Newsradio. "So we've got a little revenge factor going into their place. We've been playing well on the road, so we like the way things are heading, but we can't take anyone for granted."

Philadelphia is being led by its defense as of late. Over the past four games, that unit has forced 16 turnovers, and last week they held Iowa to 30 points in a win. The week before they limited Pittsburgh to 21.

"They're playing well," Dolezel says. "There's a good mesh between the db's and the d-line as far as getting pressure and making them hold the football in the secondary. So they're playing well together right now."

Philadelphia is 8-5 on the season, and if they are able to close the deal, this would be the second straight season they won the division.

The Soul and the Gladiators will kick-off at 7:00pm on Saturday night.
