Health: News of the Day

By Stephanie Stahl

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There's plenty of research about the importance of breastfeeding. Now there's a new study showing it can improve social status.

It says children who are breastfed are more likely to achieve a higher social status because they have developmental and behavioral advantages.

Also on the Health Watch, there's been an increase in the use of advanced prostate cancer treatments, like robotic surgery, among men who are less likely to die from it. The research shows patients were unlikely to benefit from the more costly treatments.

And finally, it's National Mosquito Control Awareness Week.

It's an important reminder from doctors who say you should take precautions to avoid mosquito bites and the potential for being infected with West Nile virus. With all the recent thunderstorms, remember to dump standing water and use insect repellent.
