Delays, Cancellations Caused By Technology Outage At Philadelphia International Airport

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A technology outage has led to delays for travelers at Philadelphia International Airport Wednesday morning.
The technology glitch started around 4:45 a.m. and impacted United Airlines and American Airlines at only at PHL.
Philadelphia International Airport spokeswoman Victoria Lupica says the problem was resolved around 9 a.m.
The outage reportedly impacted the ticketing process, which created a delay for those traveling from the airport. United Airlines says the power outage took out their computer and phones.
Travelers that used E-tickets or those with information on their Smartphones were able to board their planes with proper identification. Those traveling internationally experienced issues.
There were reports that some travelers were at the airport since 5 a.m.
United Airlines says six round-trip flights were cancelled and flights before noon were delayed. They say all afternoon flights are back to normal.
Lupica says no flights were cancelled for American Airlines.
In a posting on its website, United writes that “fees for same-day flight changes are waived within 24 hours of original departure. For all other changes, the change fee will be waived, but a difference in fare may apply.”
Officials with the airport’s hospitality service were assisting those who were impacted by the glitch.
Lupica says the problem was caused by a connectivity issue. She says once PHL gets through the morning group of passengers, it’ll be “business as usual” for the rest of the day.
