Father, Son Injured In Center City Car Accident Involving Police Car

By Dan Wing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia police say a father and his four-year-old son spent Father's Day in the hospital after being hit by a van that had run a red light.

Police say the van was heading west on Arch Street around 4:30 p.m. Sunday when it ran the light at 19th Street and struck a police cruiser before striking the 38-year old father and his son.

The father was listed in stable condition with a broken leg at University of Pennsylvania Hospital. The boy was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for observation with minor bumps and bruises.

Police also say the officer in the Police cruiser that was struck was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital to be checked out. He was complaining of back pains, but police say he was expected to be treated and released.

The investigation is ongoing. Police didn't say if charges were being filed against the driver of the van.
