OCEAN CITY, N.J. (AP) — Twenty-three contestants from around the state are vying to become Miss New Jersey.

A six-panel judge will choose the winner Saturday night in Ocean City. The competition began Thursday night.

The winner will receive an $11,000 scholarship. Pageant officials say they are handing out about $35,000 total in scholarships overall.

Miss New Jersey will also have a chance to compete in the Miss America pageant, which returns to Atlantic City Sep. 15.

This woman who takes the crown will succeed last year’s winner, Lindsey Petrosh of Egg Harbor City.
