Toddler Dies After Fall From Fifth Story Window

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A young child has died after falling out a fifth-story window in West Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened at about 1:30 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 300 block of N. Busti Street in Powelton.

According to investigators, a 22-month-old boy somehow fell out of a fifth-story window.

Sources tell Eyewitness News the boy was playing with his three-year-old sibling in a room with their mother in another room.

Sources say when the mother heard screams, she rushed over to find the window of the room, opened.

Eyewitness News is told the building is owned by the Philadelphia Housing Authority, and officials say that window for some reason did not have a screen and window guard had been removed.

The child was initially rushed to Presbyterian Hospital, but was later transported to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police are investigating the circumstances that led up to the child falling out of the window.
