Off-Duty NJ Officer Injured In Motorcycle Collision

By Dan Wing

EGG HARBOR TWP., N.J. (CBS) - An off-duty Atlantic City Police Detective was seriously injured Sunday afternoon while taking part in an organized motorcycle ride with other emergency workers, who are being credited with saving his life.

Authorities say Detective Michael Braxton and several friends, many of whom are also Atlantic City Police Officers, were riding their motorcycles on Route 40 in Egg Harbor Township when a Sedan changed lanes, forcing Braxton to make an evasive manuever that caused him to dump his bike in the roadway.

Nobody else was injured, but Braxton suffered serious injuries to his leg and was given immediate treatment by the officers he was riding with before being taken to an area hospital for surgery.

The seven-year veteran of the Atlantic City Police Department is expected to survive.

The accident is being investigated by Egg Harbor Township Police. Anybody who witnessed the crash should call 609-926-2661.
