Local Florist Gets Business Boost From U.S. Open Golf Tournament at Merion

By Brad Segall

ARDMORE, Pa. (CBS) -- When the US Open gets underway Monday at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, a family-owned business from Montgomery County will take center stage providing the flower arrangements for the weeklong event.

Willow Grove-based Kremp Florist snagged the contract to create more than 700 arrangements that will adorn the hospitality tents and other locations at the storied golf club.

Over the past few days a floral design team of 10 has been assembled to create the arrangements, which will be delivered this weekend to 39 locations.

"There's a lot of orchids and long-lasting succulents and fancy greens that really have a nice look but will also last for the full week," says Scott Kremp, company president.

He says the US Golf Association basically has four designs they use year after year, and Kremp was given a little flexibility to make it work.

With nearly 200,000 people expected for the event, Kremp says the exposure is something he hopes will translate into more business down the road.
