AAA Says Now Is A Good Time To Update Your Homeowner's Insurance

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - With federal forecasters predicting an active or extremely active hurricane season, Triple-A advises homeowners to review their insurance policies before conditions heat up.

"Check with your insurance agent to understand whether you have the coverage that you need. Regular homeowner's insurance does not cover flood damage. It does cover damage from hurricane winds."

Triple A Mid-Atlantic's Jenny Robinson there's a 30 day waiting period before that flood insurance goes into effect. She suggests you check to see if your homeowners policy has a hurricane deductible -- some only triggered when certain conditions are met. Most importantly, Robinson says, don't put it off.

"Take action now, while the sun is shining, and while nothing is happening. And get to your insurance agent, or call up your insurance company, and find out what you are covered for, what you are not covered for, and where you need to fill in the gaps.
