Montco Teen Charged With Raping Fellow High School Student in April

AMBLER, Pa. (CBS) -- Authorities in Montgomery County, Pa. have charged a 16-year-old high school student with raping another student at Wissahickon High School in late April.

According to the Montgomery County district attorney's office, the teenager has been charged with rape and related offenses in connection with the April 29th incident inside the school.

Prosecutors say the girl was transported to a local hospital for treatment of severe injuries.

The defendant underwent a detention hearing at the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center following his arrest. He was released but remains on electronic monitoring.

The DA's office has petitioned the court to have him tried as an adult. A certification hearing is scheduled for next month.

The school district put out a statement saying it is aware of the charges and the district is deeply concerned about the serious nature of the matter. The district has been cooperating with the police investigation.
