1 Dead, 1 Arrested After 2 Separate Overnight Shootings In Philadelphia


PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Police are investigating multiple overnight shootings that left one person dead and one person in custody.

According to police, a 29-year-old male was shot once in the head, left leg, right knee, groin and buttocks at about 10 p.m. Saturday in the 6000 block of Jefferson Street.

Officials say he was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries. There are no suspects.

The second incident occurred at about 3 a.m. Sunday morning at 7th and South Streets.

Police say officers responded to the area where the suspect was firing at bystanders.

According to officials, the officers began chasing the suspect who then began firing at police. Police say the officers did not fire back.

Authorities say the suspect was arrested and the weapon was recovered.

Police are investigating both incidents.
