Author Creates 'The Total Fishing Manual'

By John Ostapkovich

YARDLEY, Pa. (CBS) - Millions of Americans fish, often with techniques handed down for generations. A Yardley resident is the lead author of a book that aims to be the one-stop source for angler knowledge.

The Total Fishing Manual, from Joe Cermele and the editors of Field and Stream Magazine, contains more than 300 illustrated topics from the best lures to making an artsy print from your catch.

"This book is probably 50-50 content that has run in the magazine plus I added a lot of new content that had never been published in our magazine before to create what we feel is the most up-to-date fishing book that really caters to anglers of any level," says Cermele.

Broadly, it focuses on tools, techniques and tactics, all in a water-resistant, heavily indexed package that you might have right next to you in the boat or on the bank.

Sprinkled throughout are instructions for preparing your catch for cooking; not everything involves rod and reel. There's also a section on bow fishing for leaping silver carp.
