Working Dogs

By Nan Talleno

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Working Group of canine breeds is a classification of dogs that were initially bred to help man in service of specialized jobs. Due to their intelligence, capability, size and stature, 'working' dogs could aid in such tasks as rescue, water rescue, guarding property, pulling sleds, etc. They have truly been a valuable asset for mankind throughout the years.

These dogs include the Doberman Pinscher, the Rottweiler, the Akita, the Boxer, the Siberian Husky, the Great Dane, the Alaskan Malamute, the Mastiff, the Bull Mastiff, the Samoyed, the Newfoundland, the Cane Corso, the Bernese Mountain Dog, the Great Pyrenees and the Saint Bernard among many others.

These dogs were bred to be strong and capable but also loyal and devoted. Don't let their size fool you; these dogs are extremely bright, dedicated and loving. They are eager to learn and equally eager to please.
