Social Security Administration Releases Annual List Of Most Popular Baby Names

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Social Security Administration has released its list of top baby names for 2012.

In Pennsylvania, Sophia and Emma for girls and Mason for boys continue to be the most popular names.

Emma was number one for girls, while Sophia was second – a switch from last year, when Sophia came in first and Emma second.

Mason was the number one name for boys for the second year in a row.

Here are the top 10 names for baby boys in Pennsylvania in 2012:

1. Mason
2. Liam
3. Jacob
4. Michael
5. Noah
6. Ryan
7. Ethan
8. Logan
9. Benjamin
10. John

For girls, the top 10 are:

1. Emma
2. Sophia
3. Ava
4. Olivia
5. Isabella
6. Madison
7. Abigail
8. Emily
9. Mia
10. Aubrey

In New Jersey, the results were similar, but Mason fell to number 10 for boys. A smattering of Italian names also made it into the top 10 for both genders in the Garden State.

Boys:

1. Michael
2. Anthony
3. Joseph
4. Jayden
5. Matthew
6. Ryan
7. Jacob
8. Ethan
9. Daniel
10. Mason

Girls:

1. Sophia
2. Isabella
3. Emma
4. Olivia
5. Ava
6. Mia
7. Emily
8. Madison
9. Abigail
10. Gianna

No word on whether or not Real Housewife of NJ Teresa Guidice – who has a daughter named Gianna – has anything to do with #10.

Both New Jersey and Pennsylvania's top ten lists remain fairly consistent with the national list of the top 10 names for 2012. For boys, Jacob and Mason were the most popular names, while Sophia and Emma were tops for girls.
