Students, Car Driver Injured In Burlington Township School Bus Accident

By Jim Melwert

BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (CBS) -- Police in Burlington County are investigating a school bus crash this morning that injured several students.

The children, in grades 3 through 5, were on their way to Fountain Woods Elementary School -- part of the Burlington Township School District -- about 8am when the bus was involved in a crash with a Toyota Camry as it was trying to turn onto Salem Road from Cynwyd Drive.

"Fifteen kids on the bus, bound for Burlington Township Schools, seven of which were transported to various hospitals, along with the driver of the other vehicle," Burlington Township public safety director Kevin Shoppas tells KYW Newsradio.

All seven of the children who were taken to the hospital have been released.   The eight children not taken to the hospital went to the elementary school, where they were met by the school nurse and counselors as they waited for their parents.

The driver of the car was hospitalized with what officials called "serious" injuries.   There was no immediate word if there will be any charges as the investigation continues.

Police planned to release more details at a morning news conference, but the school district says it is working in conjunction with the Burlington Township Police Department.
